How to - make a boutique bow

Whew the last bow post this week. I hope everybody has learned how to make a few cute bows! The boutique bow is a really great bow to learn. Once you got this one down you can create all kinds of awesome bows.
Once again gather all your bow making supplies! For this bow I will make a 3 inch boutique bow with spikes. I am using a 7/8 grosgain ribbon and a 5/8 grosgain for the center. Here we go!

Step 1: Ok some how I deleted the first photo! So I stole one from the last post...pretend the ribbon is pink ok? Like I've said before I like to work right off the spool it saves a lot of wasted ribbon. Fold the ribbon back a little more then half of the length of bow your making. So for this 3 inch bow I folded it back just past 1.5 in.

Step 2: Fold the ribbon forward at the 3 inch mark.

Step 3: Turn the entire bow over and then fold the ribbon back again.

Step 4: Turn the entire ribbon over again and fold the ribbon now forward.Basicly your just wrapping the ribbon around twice. For the sake of explaining I took a photo of each step, but it's really easy and once you do it a time or two you will be able to do it quickly. It should look like this with two loops on each side.

Step 5: Cute the ribbon and then put a pin through the middle.

Step 6: Check to see if you've got the pin in the middle.

Step 7: Pull the top right inside loop out.

Step 8: Pull the bottom left inside ribbon out, forming an X. This is the tricky part! You have to work a little bit on getting the bow to to shape. Keep pulling the tops out keeping your fingers in the center and trying to keep the back in a straight line. It takes a few practices!

Step 9: Grab your needle and begin to weave the needle through the bow.

It should look like this.

Step 10: Now scrunch your bow together on the needle.

Step 10: Push the needle through, wrap the thread around tight, and then tie off.
Step 11: Cut three strips of 3in ribbon.

Step 12: Cut them in a V cut and heat seal each end. Just move the ribbon close to the flame, do not put it directly into the flame!

Step 13: Lay the ribbons out like so.

Step 14: With your needle and thread stitch three little stitches through the center.

Step 15: Tie a knot for th center, I used a smaller ribbon.

Step 16: Apply a dot of glue to the top of the ribbon to add the knot. Then wrap each side around the back with hot glue and trim.

Your bow will look like this. Don't worry about if it's a little funky wait till the end to reshape it.

Now glue a line of hot glue on the spikes and glue on, then add your lined clip. I love these bows! They are perfect for little head an big heads. They are a beautiful bow yet not too over the top :)

And the are my favorite gift for mommy's to be! These are perfect to clip on little head bands!

I hope you guys love these as much as I do!
